School Year 21-22 Info and Quick Links

To help families find what they need for the 2021-2022 school year, we have created a one stop page to access the things you need.

School contact information, hours, and early release times can be found here.

Health and Safety Information

As we enter a new school year, we are hopeful that there will be less disruption so that our students can re-engage with the robust educational opportunities that the Salem Public Schools offers.  However, we know that the virus is still with us, and we must continue to mitigate the risks to our community members.  We have taken extraordinary steps to protect our students and staff with health and safety guidance that can be found in our family health handbook (Health handbook in Spanish). As we have been accustomed to, this guidance is likely to shift throughout the school year as we learn more about COVID-19 and its variants.
You can print Covid-19 Testing Consent Forms and bring them to your school's front office Covid Testing Consent form in English Covid-19 Testing Consent form in Spanish

Back to school forms were sent via ParentSquare. These forms include:

  • Contacts and Acknowledgement Form
  • Permission to Treat/Health Form
  • Covid Testing Consent Form

You can fill them out electronically from the ParentSquare email you received, or you can go to this page to download and print the forms and return them to your school’s front office.
If you need a link re-sent to you please let us know.

Transportation Information

Are you looking for the bus route your student is on? You can find it in their Aspen account.

This year we have created a Transportation handbook. You can access that here (transportation handbook in Spanish). You can also find forms to print and bring to the transportation department at this link.

Additional information:

Bus passes for our regular education buses as well as information on routes and stops are being mailed this week.  If you have not received your bus pass by Saturday, please contact the SPS Transportation Department Monday morning. Please note that for regular education (big bus) transportation, you must register for your student for the bus each school year.  We do not automatically register students who were transported in a prior year.
Bus passes must be worn by all students to board our big buses.  During the first week of school, students without passes may be permitted to ride the bus and will be issued a yellow TEMPORARY Bus Pass.  Guardians of any unregistered students will be contacted by school staff and will be expected to pick up students at the end of the school day at their school.  Salem Public Schools staff will not place a student on an afternoon bus without a permanent bus pass showing the route and stop assigned to that student.
Please remember that there may be transportation delays in the first two weeks of school as drivers become accustomed to routes and stops during normal school hours.  The Transportation Department will notify guardians through ParentSquare if buses are expected to be more than 20 minutes late to a stop or school.

Please be sure to have your child at the bus stop at least ten minutes before the scheduled arrival time.

Guardians of students receiving specialized transportation will receive information on the bus and pick up time via mail this week.  Students receiving door to door transportation should be ready at least ten minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time.  When the driver arrives, if the student is not visible, the driver will beep the horn of the vehicle then wait three (3) minutes for the student to appear and board.  If the student does not  board within that time, the driver shall move on to the next stop.

Masks are required at all times on buses for both students and staff.

All windows on buses will be open at least 2” during operation.  Please be sure to dress children appropriately, particularly during inclement weather.
